The CARRS Study was initially funded for five years, as part of a program to establish Global Centers of Excellence (COE), by the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) through its Global Health Initiative from 2009-2015 (contract HHSN268200900026C), and UnitedHealth. It has subsequently been maintained through a plurality of funding sources.
